Hi Paige:

I just want to point out a few issues to consider for storing and displaying images:
1. Storing images in separate files will pose a problem if you are on a network environment and you wish to operate in detached mode (particularly for laptop users.)
2. If you link a file in a general field, you will not be able to access this file when you are detached from the network. The same applies to stored images to separate files.
3. One solution that you may want to consider is to embed images or objects in general fields using VFP or SQL image. With this you can open any file for view or edit from any computer attached or detached to the network. With SQL replication you will be able to maintain concurrent copy of the image or file across all nodes on the network.
4. In regard to scanning software, usually all scanners come with their own free scanning software which I encourage you to use. You can scan images to files or directly to the general field, and again I suggest embedding rather than linking or saving to separate files.
5. Just a final note the process of storing and embedding objects is very simple and fun to use. Just keep in mind if you want to use more than 2GB of storage you need to use SQL Server rather than VFP to assure adequate capacity and robust operation.

Good luck.
