The form is a utility form of the application where the user selects records based on specific criteria - so if 16000 thousand records meet that criteria than I have to show 16000 records. The listview is set to use checkboxes and the user can then do a final selection via the checkboxes and process the checked records.

Then DavidF suggestion is better. Use a grid which can a contain checkbox in a column. I would create a special field for the checkbox which I can then test after the user chooses to process his selection.
