Hi John,

The error message 'Network path not found' indicate a network problem. Another common error message is 'Invalid permission, access denied'. Usually this error indicates that the samba users or samba smb.conf file have not been properly setup. Are you able to ping the linux computer with both your NetBIOS name and IP address? Do you have your linux server setup with a proper IP address and NetBIOS name? There is a file called lmhosts in /etc/samba. This file is common to both windows and samba. It can usually be found under the windows tree in 95/98, WP/2000. It can usually be found under the winnt tree in NT 4.0 server/workstation. The lmhosts file is need by a client computer to resolve NetBIOS names within a network to the various IP addresses.

My system uses a windows NT 4.0 Primary Domain Server to authenticate user as they login to the network and to resolve NetBIOS names to IP address. I also have entered the info in the lmhosts file so client computers can resolve NetBIOS names to IP address.

If your network does not have a Domain Name Server, (e.g. DNS), you might consider letting you linux computer assume this duty by making it the network's primary domain server.
