Rob,

I *think* I have good news on the SQL/FPT issue...

Using VFP7 SP1 I did a number of Select-SQLs, always to the same records in a 500K records table with every second record having FPT content.

Between Select-SQL runs I ran a program to add data to each of the Memo fields in the subject table. After doing this 3 times, I ran a PACK MEMO and then ran the Select-SQL one more time.

The output table size (both DBF and FPT) was identical for the run prior to the PACK MEMO and the one after.

By the way, I had started with a .FPT of 160,000,512 and after the last run to add to the memo fields its size was 944,000,512. After the PACK MEMO the FPT size was down to 304,000,512.

So I think that problem has been resolved. Do you agree?

cheers

>>That was WELL WORTH the length of wind it took you. Thanks for sharing that - I have never heard of it either and I do think it is very significant.

>>My testing showed some oddity in the processing of FPTs, but this takes it to a whole new level. I'm now thinking seriously of a Wish List item to have more efficient processing and better documentation regarding memo fields and FPT files.
