Hi John,

See my message above your error message indicatiing a network problem rather that a authentication problem.

The smbadduser file is in the /usr/bin directory. It is a unix c shell script. One of the problems with linux is it allow the same thing to be accomplished in may ways. For example I could manually type the commands needed to set up a new samba user. I could use a shell script that incorporates the needed command, like smbadduser, to set up a samba user. Also, I could use GUI like SWAT or webmin to do the same. One method is as good as another, but people tend to get confused when someone talks about configuration HOWTOs outside their method of choice.
