Sigh...This is one of those situations where it
appears that we're both right. It looks to me like it's platform dependent. You're absolutely correct for Win2K/XP. However, in versions of Windows prior to those, it looks like I'm correct.
For any lurkers who want more information, if you have the MSDN library (recent version), set the filter to "Platform SDK" and do a search for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. One of the early results is titled "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT key" and the location is "Windows System Information: Platform SDK". If you don't have the MSDN library, this data should also be available on the web site.
