Well I just voted no, but I don't think this is a good question for a poll.

Here's why I voted no. . .

In regular mode my list of forums lets me keep, in the list of forums, some forums that I visit only every once in a while.
Once I go to virtual mode, then messages for these forums will now be shown to me all the time. Obviously, if I had wanted to see all those messages all the time, I would have used virtual forum setting. In other words, I don't want those 'extra' forums' messages in my face all the time.

Now, you will tell me, just remove those forums from the list of forums. The trouble with that is that it then shuts me out from those forums unless I take steps to reinstate them temporarily. In such a case, if I remember correctly, then my last read is lost and so I end up starting fresh.

So IF (repeat: IF) I could have some way to be able to continue to view other forums keeping my 'last visit there' info current then I would be OK with virtual forums. But since I cannot, then I far prefer the way it works now.

cheers

PS I wonder how many of those last 15000 users actually know about the non-virtual forum capability? I wonder how many are actually registered for more than one forum?

>We have released a new pool on UT today. This is in regards to virtual mode. It applies to the messages area. The virtual mode is the default mode since November 12, 2001 for all new accounts created. We got 15000 new accounts since then and only one member switched his account to non virtual.
>
>Virtual mode eliminates the need to switch forums, provides a faster access to read messages, provides the benefit of keeping in touch in all forums at all time and would put all members within one universal mode to work within the messages area.
>
>In order to keep simplifying the messages area, in a few isolated places like that, the ability for all members to work within one mode and the removal of the need to switch forums for those who never updated their account profile to switch to virtual, would help a lot in that direction.
>
>Please, participate on the main page survey and let us know if you'd agree to have a permanent virtual mode.
