Bertje, as an update to my previous post:
1) Fix your printer for windows apps as you are doing.
2) Then go to Start - Settings - Printers.
3) Right click your printer and choose Properties.
4) Click the "Print Test Page". XP will then print a page showing you all the drivers it is using.
5) Now you can try your DOS printing and then re-check the printer drivers using above to see what changed - if anything.
