Not sure to which thread you refer, but I assume it was using SQL-passthrough. All you need for SPT is the ODBC driver to the data source you want to read/write. WOW, you don't need Access installed in order to use SPT. I think my example was updating data in an existing MDB. I'm not sure if the Access ODBC driver provides support for creating an MDB. If you need more control over Access, you could use automation. However, this requires Access to be installed.
Don't know about converting data to Palm. I'm sure I've seen threads here that discussed this issue. Try to do a search.
