Many solutions were given to you. Here's another take on this problem.
You could also add a checksum field to one or more tables. The value for that field would be computed by the application. If the data is changed outside the application then the checksum value would'nt be good no more. If this is the case then you stop the application from running.
I know that this sollution alone is'nt perfect but I think that a mixture of the solutions that were given to you would probably give you the security that you're looking for.
