I suggest you write to a file, not to the printer. Then, send the file to the printer with "???". This has worked so far, for me.

Alternatively, you could also send individual characters to the printer with "???".

Sending to a file first has the additional advantage that you can use the file for preview. For instance, send it to your default text editor, or to your default browser.

Personally, instead of using "@...SAY", I got into the habit of using "?" and "??". Later, I changed this into a class, with support for data-grouping, line, column, and page counting, output to Excel, preview in text editor or browser, support for bold and italic (shows in browser preview), and other features more.
