I get yer drift. Actually, I'd suspect it is just that few are anticipating Web Services in their futures for now. Web Services will mean choosing .NET or J2EE. It is frequently asserted that MS "has bet the farm" on .NET. Business' motivation to go .NET (or J2EE if not already) will be based on the desire for Web Service capability (and an economy worth getting out of bed for).
Web Service's blood is XML, along with SOAP and two other doo-dads I don't recall the initials of. Regardless, XML is data. A "data centric language" from MS dubbed X# is currently on the grapevine.
If there is to be an X#, is it what a VFP.NET might've become?
