Can I create a view based on aliased free tables?

Yes, that is what I meant. I usually don't get the open file dialog. I suspect your program can't find the tables if you don't open them explicitly. Are they along the path?

My tables are all part of a database.

But, I think the tables will be found even if you opened them with another alias.
