<*sigh*> I'd really love to argue this, but remembering some spam I've seen from Javascript embedded in messageboards, it's probably better to let it drop.

Maybe you could have a "safe for < script >ing" tag where people who wanted more control of their messages could agree not to do anything really obnoxious, and would have it removed for periods for proving they couldn't hold to the agreed standards? I think that would be better than forcing everyone into the same mold.
