You are correct as always. The default in windows XP is set so the security tab is not present in the properties dialog of a file or folder. Since this was my first experience with XP, not seeing the security tab, led me to think that permissions were set in a different manner. I went into control panel -> folder options and un-checked simple view. Now my security tab in the file and folder properties dialog is visble. Now it looks like the familliar tabbed dialog that was present in my previous windows version ie:2000 server. Please pass this heads-up to anyone else needing to set file/folder permissions. This may be all that they are missing.

Regards,
Neil

>>IUSR_DEVELOPER is my username. I pulled up the Local Security Settings applet and made certain that IUSR_DEVELOPER had the rights to each of the 37 security policies available. I did this just to limit my variables. My com object was not able to WRITE to the folder hanging off of my virtual. I then pulled up the Internet Information Services applet and double clicked on my virtual directory named BABYDELL. Then I clicked on Properties. I clicked on the tab marked Directory Security. I hit the Edit button in the section marked:Anonymous access and authentication control. When I was in the Authentication Methods dialog, which was invoked, I unchecked: Anonymous access. The com object was then able to WRITE a file to a sub folder hanging off of my virtual. BUT now I have progressed to the next problem.

>>I can read all of my data files but I can't update them or add to them. My browser gives me an error:Invalid class string. Please assist me with this new problem. I am so close to being upgraded to XP. BTW... My data files are in d:\vfp\test\data. I right clicked on the "data" folder and then clicked on the sharing and security... option. The data properties dialog was invoked and I checked the: share this folder on the network checkbox as well as the allow network users to change my files checkbox . I then clicked on the tab: Web Sharing. I clicked on the radio button to: Share this folder. Any thoughts?

>>>If you're writing to files then you need Write or full access in addition to Read access to those files. If this goes through default security IUSR_ is the accounnt you have to give rights.

My asp instantiates a com object that writes a file to a folder hanging off of the virtual. My browser reports a "file access denied" error when the com object attempts to create a file in the sub folder. However, if I modify the com object to create a file in a folder that is not involved with IIS, ie c:\temp, the program runs without an access denial error. How do I modify IIS5 to fix this problem?
