No no...it's too...embarrasing.

:)

Here it is:

When using the view designer to create remote views of tables on an AS/400 using the Rumba 7.1 ODBC driver, VFP 8.0 (and 7 sp1 for that matter) exhibits a number of bizarre behaviors:

Field widths are set too high by 2 for any numeric field.

Field names, with the exception of the first field, are changed to exp, exp1, exp2...

If you rightclick and hit run query on a view with more than one field in it, you get "Type conversion required by the Data Type property for field exp is invalid"

After dinking around with this enough, you can actually break the DSN, making it not display about half the tables it has available to it. The only way I have found to fix it is to delete and recreate the DSN.


There is a lot of other strangeness, this points in the general direction.

Oddly enough, if you create the view programatically (at least a read only view with no properties changed), everything works fine. The DSN also works fine with Access and Excel.
