Title:
UK Phones & Addresses, field widths and validation?
I am modifying a FoxPro application for use in the UK. There are obvious differences in the phone #'s, postal codes and addresses. Currently we use the following for the US.
Address Line #1 C 35
Address Line #2 C 35
City C 25
State C 2
Postal Code C 10
Phones C 14
So far, I've determined that postal codes in the UK are a maximum of 8 digits (when the center space is removed). We will probably make the state field a country code ('UK'). Phones appear to have a variety of formats, but seem to be 11 digits in length (without spaces). I have found many cases where the addresses seem to have a least three address lines before the city/postal code line. But it varies also.
What changes/additons to the above table fields would you recommend to properly capture the adresses/phones? And do you have any recommendations on validation for the City, State, or phones fields?
Thanks for anything help you can provide!
