Hi Ali,

same as you, we have been using VFP for 10+ yesrs. During the last several years we moved our knowledge from client/server to web-based data driven applications. You know that this area is currently dominated by Java (I am talking about real enterpise projects, which really pays...). I think the problem is that VFP professionals are left behind in adoption of newer technologies, dictated by contemporary web-enabled enterpise. The issue is not is a lack of VFP power to process data, but the entire architecture itself - the client/server is a history, and the web portal based architecture is an unknown approach to VFP people. While Java is not such data efficient environment in comparison with VFP, Java community offered many tools supporting web-based and web portal architecture - this turned out to be the most critical factor to take projects from VFP.

We challenged this and create the first complete set of web-portal technologies - all done with VFP. This includes web portal itself, single signon system, web reporting, web forms, http clustering, ability to create a system consiting of loosely coupled objects, remote debugging over the web, web-based tracing of VFP projects, and so on (many features are even better then in Java world!). As of now, in minutes and hours, we create virtual applications, which consist of combination of VFP, Java, .NET, PHP, etc. VFP is our native environment, but as you see it integrate any web-enabled technologies. We also integrated our tools with .NET and you can run VFP from C#, and so on. Adding VFP data-driveen power to all this - you could beat Java people in their own game.

So... my recommndation is - do not throw away your VFP expertise. However, get used to web portal approach. As you go, look at C# - this the second lanquage we also support and we are very happy with it. I think that VFP + C# is an unbeatable combination. Take a closer look at our technologies. If you are interested, we have another parallel demo site, which also demostrates adminitrator and developer tools... and call me - 416-4835219 - we could further discuss it.

Igor.
