Great comments Jim. I must admint that I am on the pessimistic side of this issue. When I install a piece of software on my PC the second thing I do is visit their web site to download updates to their software. Unfortunately for your goal, I have not found a software yet that did not have to be updated.

But I also give them credit in that at least it should be a top goal of us all.
