Thanks, Herman! That was very smart of you to include the montage. I just realized I should have asked before I saw your email. Glad I took the time to do that About box, too, because it tells me some interesting things. I gather that you are running under Win2K Pro also, but apparently under a newer SP than mine (I'm using SP1). Also I see that you've got IE6, but I've got IE 5.5. But the most interesting points are these: you're running an older version of VFP6 than I am (SP5), and you've "installed" into your TEMP directory.

Maybe I misunderstood what sort of installation you performed. There's the "standard" wizard-based setup, mosetup.exe (4.5MB), and there's the "quick install" stuff for those who already have the VFP6 runtime installed, or if you wish to simply copy the VFP6 runtime into the Montage program directory. It looks to me as though you did a variation of the quick install, but you didn't extract the more recent VFP runtimes into the program directory, so it's finding your older version.

I tested out the montage you sent me, and I don't see any problems with repeated opening and closing, with or without the Shortcut Properties dialogs open. So my guess is that your use of an older version of the VFP6 runtime is the cause of the problems. It would probably be a good idea to update to SP5 in any case, but you should be able to simply extract the necessary SP5 runtimes from my vfp6libs.zip and put them in the Montage program directory.

I don't know if there's any significance to your choice of d:\temp as the Montage program directory, but that doesn't seem like a good choice. I'd suggest d:\montage3 instead. Bear in mind that Montage creates an icons subdirectory, and one would normally define an association for .MO3 files to point to the installed montage3.exe. I doubt that using your temp dir is the cause of the immediate problem, but it seems strange, and I'd advise against it.

I'll bet that the problem will go away with the SP5 runtimes. I sure hope it does. But if it doesn't, I've got another idea. I won't go into it in detail at this point, but briefly, there is a runtime diagnostic tracing facility that could generate a useful log of what goes on when you attempt to close a dialog. That would allow me to diagnose this more precisely, but I'll wait and see if any further analysis is really needed.

Thanks again for your help!

Mike

>>Sorry, I missed the point about your having deleted the folder. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem you described. What I did was to create an empty montage with a single unopened Shortcut, and I opened its Shortcut Properties dialog. Then I closed and reopened the montage repeatedly. Is that essentially the same test you are trying? It would be helpful to know what version of Windows and IE you are running under. If you have another machine available, it may behave differently, which would be interesting. (Most of my testing has been under Win2K Pro and Win95.) The About dialog has a bunch of information that you can easily copy (e.g. right click on the editbox and choose Copy All). I'd appreciate it if you could paste that info into an email to me.

>>Thanks very much for testing my program and reporting the results. It's a great service to me. I hope we can resolve this strange problem before you lose interest! If you've already reached that point, I'm disappointed, but very grateful for the time you've already spent.

>>>Hi Mike,
>>>I said before, that I deleted the montage folder. So all the file in that folder is deleted. Including Montage.mo3, FPT & CDX. Than I created a new folder and reinstall. Still that happen.
>>>
>>>But now I tried again. redelete the Montage folder (all files, including Montage.mo3, FPT & CDX). Restart the computer, and reinstall. Now it's ok. So I guess there was a leak in memory after the C5 error. Than I try to drag & drop from explorer, it works well. But after I close & open the program several times. I can't close the shorcut properties dialog again. Something weird is happening here...
>>>
>>>Well.. I'm gonna try again later
>>>
>>>Regards
Montage
