Hi stuart,

I use Linux as the back-end on a product I'm developing and I need to kick off various scripts on the Linux box depending on user actions. I'm using Samba as the file server and to start the scripts I create a specific file on the Linux box for each script that I wish to start. On the Linux side I have a cron job for each script - running every minute - checking for the existence of each of the files. If a file exists, the particular script is started.

Although this method means that there is a delay of up to one minute before the script is started, this is not a problem for the operations that I need to start on the Linux box : CD Writing, Backup, Restart/Shutdown, etc.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Liam
