Have you checked out MSKB #321733? It suggests a hot-fix is available for Win2000.

And I must say that if it's going to use a "delayed write" then it should damned well keep the buffer around for re-sending. Their current approach may be fine for something like a Word doc (save it elsewhere) but it is USELESS for database applications.
