Herman,

If it turns out that SP5 fixes the problem, I'd hardly call that an incompatibility.:) All of your suggestions sound reasonable. There already exists a limited capability to "use an icon from the exe", but I take it that you mean doing something more in this area, and I would agree that further extensions to my icon extraction facilities are very desirable. I'm also planning to support an option to display a description (like a tooltip) when you hover over a Shortcut. I like the notion of showing the custom icon as a Shortcut is dragged, but punted on this in the initial implementation. (As I recall, there were some tricky issues relating to the jerky displacement of the icon relative to the current mouse position.)

The most interesting point, though, is your suggestion about using the left click (instead of double-click) to launch an app. At first, I dismissed this as being likely to cause too many problems, but on further reflection it suggests a closely related idea that now seems very appealing. Here's what I have in mind: introduce customizable toolbars, into which the user can place buttons that act just like Montage Shortcuts. That would provide a clean way to support left-click activation without the potential complications of trying to attach this behavior to one of my Shortcuts in the Montage Desktop window.

Carrying the idea a little further, having such a toolbar residing in the Windows desktop would allow the main Montage window to be hidden or minimized, with another toolbar button to quickly return to it. Each montage could have any number of such custom toolbars, whose state would be saved and restored, of course. In addition to the user-definable quick-launch buttons, a variety of other types of command buttons could also be incorporated into the toolbar interface. I've thought about this before, but it was your suggestion about left-click launching that led to my thinking of the concept of quick-launch buttons in this context. This inspires me to consider giving much greater priority to the addition of Montage toolbars.

Thanks again for your input, Herman. You've been more helpful to me than you seem to realize.

>I only think that maybe you need those files also, so I just sent it. But hey.. thanks for your kind word :-)
>Sorry I mentioned about "install". Actually I only extracted from the zip file and put it in a new directory. And I used a temp directory for test only until it works on my machine then I'll move it to my util directory.
>What excites me about Montage is, I thought about making something like that (more less) few months ago, but integrated into my application. So users doesn't have to go to Window Desktop or Taskbar if they want to launch other apps. But I never start making it *g*

>So, you think SP5 that causing the problem. If this the case, then it means there is some incompatibility between SP5 and the SP before that thou. But, I'll give it a try later.
>Anyway I have few idea for your Montage, to make it looks more like Windows Desktop
