Developers Users Group Thames Valley Meeting Monday 10-Feb-03

VFP Middle Tier Business Objects by Gordon Knott and Kevin Wright

7:30pm Monday 10-Feb-03 at the White Hart, Hook, Hants.

Many VFP applications now need to either be able to talk to different data sources (eg Fox and SQL Server) from the same codebase, or be accessed by different User Interfaces (VFP forms, Web), or both.

N-tier application methodology was introduced to cope with these varied demands, ensuring that the Developer could write the core of an application once, and have that same code reused to suit the customer's changing needs.

VFP, with its native data handling capabilities, has proved an ideal tool for constructing the middle tier objects to make this happen. In this evening, Gordon and Kevin are going to try to quickly demonstrate some ideas to put this into practice, hoping to give the audience food for though for their own applications.

You will see two different apporaches. Gordon has written his classes from scratch in VFP, whilst Kevin has taken the wwBusiness classes from Rick Strahl, and subclassed them to add considerable additional functionality.

For your Diary, future Thames Valley dates planned for 2003 - 14th April, 14th July, 27th October (probably) and 8th December.
