There seems to be a problem with W2000 Server and VFP in which users are receiving the subject error messages. I have seen and participated in threads touching on this issue but I have yet to see a confirmation from MS that the problem exists or any official MS solution/work around.

One of my clients retreated to NT4 and the problem went away. Another client moved from NT4 to W2000 in spite of my warnings. They installed registry settings I found on the UT and the problem seems to be less severe than experienced by the first client but it still happens. Now it seems to be tied to a certain time of day, i.e. 4pm when some users log out for the day. Immediately, other users start getting "Error Readfing File" and "Illegal Seek Offset" errors.

This would suggest that perhaps W2000 is sharing connections/file handles and when the holder on the connection logs out he drags others along and they lose their connection to the database.

Can anyone enlighten me on this issue?

Thanks,

Ken
