This means that a lot of the popular automated testing tools don't work with VFP. There's only one I know of that supports VFP GUIs -- Autoscriptor Inferno.

Vin,

FYI we used to use Inferno rather actively. It was a hardware-based solution. Basically it's a separate CPU that has all the Inferno VB-based code on it and then you hook it up to a slave workstation which ends up being taken over when scripts are being played back.

Bitmap comparisons were done to compare test result values. So we built a rather large database of screen/image captures to use during the scripts.

Eventually we stopped using it because the CPU was slow and it was rather tedious to work with. Right now I'm looking at some other packages out there to see how well they run. So far, I've found HighTest from Vermont Software (www.vtsoft.com). From what I can see, you would also need to use bitmap comparisons for test results since HighTest can't recognize any of the controls/objects on the screen. However, this package is software based and so far it seems a little easier to deal with than Inferno. After running it through some more paces and testing other packages out, I'll report my findings.

Laterness,
Jon
