Nope, I don't think that applies to the known issue. There's an MSKB article about this one (which I can't find at the moment). Its solution, however, may or may not be able to be implemented by you. Issuing CLEAR ALL released the dangling object reference to Excel. However, because it releases public variables as well, it may not be practical for your use.
