The problem during these days is that the Internet protocol is being intercepted and changed by several tools and setups. Last week, we released a light weight version of the list which is more powerful, faster to download, faster to process and will allow some cools features in the next months. While doing that, we took the occasion to change the entire security mechanism in place as some 3rd party tools were intercepting some required data and so on.

Just to give you an example, one ridiculous setting that is usually bound to default when a user will use such software and will enable some security settings is that any new window from a Web site is being intercepted as those vendors assume that whenever a Web site does that that it is a SPAM window. That is totally not the case on the Universal Thread as we need that for pick lists. So, for full blown appliations on a Web site, this is becoming more and more difficult to deliver an interface that will fit all. Just for that example, if you do everything in one window, when comes time to a pick list, this will irritate users as they will complain that's it's not the proper way to do. For example, you probably do the same in your VFP apps. We do the same here. So, when doing it, the users using such utilities are being penalized by default until they discover that they have to open the gate for the Universal Thread or any other Web site that requires it.

Then, another one is the one we are facing presently. Instead of being able to rely on the IP, we will have to rely on other mechanisms and security could then become an issue.

So far, I've seen based HTTP variables that are becoming useless become of those utilities. HTTP_REFERER, the IP and for functionalities, the javascript window.open() function. So, yes, we have a good job. :(

I need to revise some of that and will come up with an enhanced solution that will take care of those within the boundaries that you are.
