There are two things to consider here, with a networked VFP application:
1. The workstation OS. VFP apps actually run on the workstation(s), but share files stored on the server.
2. The server OS, which stores VFP files used by a multiuser VFP app.
For workstations, emulators such as WINE attempt to create a Windows environment under which Windows apps will (hopefully) run. Support for VFP (which historically has been very demanding) doesn't seem to be quite there yet:

738476For servers, the Samba daemon works very well at making a Linux server look like a Windows server to Windows workstations. You can store your app's shared files on a Linux/Samba server just like a Windows server.
If you're buying VFP-based software from a vendor you need to consider that vendor's support for running their app on non-Windows systems. I'd be surprised if any VFP-app vendor would support running it on a Linux workstation via an emulator, or on a Mac via SoftPC. On the server side Samba seems pretty good but it still isn't Windows; if you get file corruptions the vendor may say you're on your own.
A client of mine installed a Samba update on Debian in early March 2002, which ironically was supposed to improve reliability of FoxPro applications; file corruptions were pretty regular until that "upgrade" was unwound. Caveat emptor.
