It's not a bug, it's a feature. :-)

It's an XP Themes thang. If you want to turn off Themes, either at the application or Form level, you'll see the desired behavior. You already found the best workaround though: setting the backstyle to Transparent. I suspect there are very few cases where this would actually be a problem.

You did use a custom label base class, right? :-)
