That is not quite what I meant. Sybase does know what Substring means. When I create the remote view by hand, it works. (BTW: Sybase developed a Windows NT version of their SQL Server for Microsoft. This product became Microsoft SQL Server which explaines why these 2 are very alike except for the fact that Sybase runs also on Linux). It's only a shortcoming of the view editor. I'm glad these shortcomings are addressed in VFP since I will upgrade to VFP 8.0 when it comes out.
