Just a SWAG here, but did you link CMXFOX52.OBJ into your Clipper applications? I've been migrating our systems from Clipper with the COMIX RDD since VFP5 - it works for me.

As for spotting Visual Objects, one of my competitors is using Visual Objects 2.0 - needless to say, I'm not all that worried.
