That's exactly the situation as since it's HTTP, MS can bundle it in in their interface as they control the backend. It's like a custom reader for their own purposes. However, from another provider, it'd be difficult to bundle it in as they mostly do not know how the backend will react. This will probably change in the future if more providers will come up with XML standard and stuff like that that an interface would be able to rely on. So, in the meantime, in such circumstances, if POP3 is not supported, I really don't see how to retrieve emails.
