If it is XP service pack 1, there is a patch missing that causes SMB network errors in some circumstances. I think the files have to be on a Server that is also a Primary DC, but that's often the case in a small business. SBS usually has everyting on one box :(

MS said the patch is in the roll-up of SP1, but it's a mistake. Apply Security
bulletin 02-070 to the XP's. In December we got the word that 02-070 is not
included in XP sp1.
