Yes, especially since there are already many taxes in place (and the economic situation in general is disastrous).
However, people protest about lots of things, not only about the proposed tax raise (anulled in the meantime). For instance, it seems that the police (this time, the riots started with clashes between police and army) protested because they wanted a salary raise.
