I guess my earlier suggestion was a bit of a 'sledgehammer' job. I agree it would be useful to have the ability to create just an XML fragment - maybe we'll get it in 9.

Regarding choice of STRTRAN() and STREXTRACT() I think that in this instance, since the length of the strings you need to remove is constant, I'd go back to the old SUBSTR().
