Just for clarification on the DCOM. If you go into DCOMCNFG and don't see the name of the class as an available choice, but you DO see some of those strange GUIDs listed at the top, double click on those first. Look at the name of the executable they point to. Its PROBABLY one of those.

To CLEAR THAT up, if you modify the project used to build the COM, then do right-click -- project info, click on the "Servers" tab. It should list your COM server that was made as OLEPUBLIC. On the right side for the "Description", if that is blank, then the GUID is shown. Put a description in there, and when you rebuild, THAT description should be the one that appears in the DCOMCNFG screen.
