This is what is causing your problem. PACKing the grid's RecordSource closes the table, ripping it out from under the grid causing the grid to have a nervous breakdown.

Why do you have to PACK the grid's RecordSource? Aren't you running with SET DELETED ON? Perhaps there is an alternative to PACKing the grid's RecordSOurce.
