>Anybody ever run across this scenario? I have a SQL select--only mildly complicated, it calls a UDF--that throws a syntax error when I run it. Not unusual, right? But get this: I can step up to it in the debugger trace window, cut and paste the entire statement, exactly as is, from the trace window into the command window and it executes there just fine. Go back to the trace window, execute it there and the error is back. This happens the same way when I execute in the command window after the error--it's fine there. Also happens with an INKEY wait thrown in. (The UDF is a simple lookup for a field code in a completely separate table not involved in the select.)

Ray,
When you step onto command window do you set datasession be same as routine's ? (just thinking if something related to session)
