That way no code would have been 'broken' and implementation of VFP8 could happen unimpeded with plans to later address the ANSI issues.
I understand your position, but I think the Fox team thought it was more important to prevent us from coding this wrong in the future than to protect our older code. Without blowing my NDA, I think I can say that the right approach was discussed at length and the general consensus was to do it the way it ended up.
