IMO, Crystal Decisions screwed up on this one. You should be able to test your application and make sure it works. As a work around, instead of creating a new report, use an empty RPT file and modify it. The error message will not be displayed.

Bingo! I was making the dumb assumption that all Crystal ActiveX controls should start with "Crystal." Oh well. Thanks for the tip on using an empty .rpt; that will save me some time. And I agree, how are you supposed to develop the app if you can't test the control.
