The obvious lesson learned is "keep the media strictly controlled or you'll lose at home".

Yes. I have seen enough of that while my country was bombed. Cluster bombs thrown to a marketplace, footage from a Tommahawk missile aiming at a civilian train (150+ dead) as it crosses a bridge, a pedestrian bridge bombed on a Sunday noon when it's full of people etc etc.

They are professionals in the sense that they get paid for what they do. And they do target civilians. It just takes some control of the media to create a different image.
