Good question, I can't remember seeing any of our government making any specific comments about the situation.

I might be wrong, but from what I can see the (very) large majority of your government is in accord with your President. The UK government is extremely divided over the current situation (Iraq & related), so talking about "my" governments position is somewhat difficult. As for the person who really matters, the Prime Ministers position is most likely to be what the President tells him it ought to be.
