In 6.0 and before you have two options depending on the target platform. You can either use my LNKFILES.DLL (available in the download section) or the Windows Script Host's shell object in a post-setup executable.

The former comes with complete documentation on its use.

In the case of the latter, the late Ed Rauh and I wrote about this in our second of our series on the WSH. The articles, which began in Sept. 2000 are available in the newsletter archive at VFUG (www.vfug.org).
