I have heard "late 2003" -- in fact, if Microsoft holds true to form, we can expect all the *.2003 products to be released on December 10 2003 or so... :)

In my experience, sales people who are short on a product often blame it on "a new release is due soon." My advice is: shop around, you'll find it, and once you're ready to upgrade to the new version, you can do so. I ave not heard anything that makes me think that the new release will nclude dramatically different hardware recommendations. The minimum requirements may change, but trust me, you don't want the minimum. Remember that the whole idea of client-server is (or at least *was*) to minimize client PC costs by loading execution -- and hardware costs -- onto one, or few machines. The SQL Server box is NOT where you want to cut costs.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts. - Bertrand Russell
