Thanks to all that replied to my question. I additionally browsed some very old notes I had stored away, and my (our) conclusions are still valid. A complete rewrite is the best way to go. I am sure it coule be nickled and dimed, but I never recommend that to a client, and would only do something like that for a personal application for my own use. An example there was my old quickbooks look-alike that I created way back in 2.5 and still use for personal stuff. The later developed VFP module is how I move the data into TaxCut for tax return purposes.

SQL server is not really an option as all the data tables combined fit on three floppy disks.

I will provide them a proposal that will include a rewrite, conversion of the data tables to a datbase, where stored procedures, triggers, etc can be stored, and provide the whole shebang on a CDROM. If they go for it, I am sure I can make them proud, or a least provide some training to a staff programmer to do the job.

After all, I am retired and am not looking for major project work, but like to keep my fingers in on some of the old legacy stuff.
