Thanks for responding so quickly & for running that test. These are all free tables & I can't think of any settings that would be different in the Identity table. The same code works in the other 4 tables. What bothers is that when you do:
IF USED("identity")
USE IN identity && closes the Table
ENDIF
It in fact closes the table. I then used AUSED() to build * display an array of active aliases before & after executing the USED code shows it is *gone* after executing that code. Yet in the next line, the delete command is finding the table open.
This bug started after I added parameters to the 5 methods.
PARAMETERS cDir
this enables the form to delete & overwrite all 5 tables at once.

Just thinking out loud....wonder if the project is corrupted. Normally when that happens it can't find something when you re-compile, but what do you think? [Sounds like he's grasping at straws to me.<bg>]
