If you think it's not about money, tell me why MS bothers selling an upgrade version that they don't intend to let anyone use it in a sensible way? If it were about the cost of doing business, there wouldn't be more than one way to buy it. The whole thing smacks of deception - almost a "bait'n'switch"? Without that clause, how many people using VFP7 without MSDN would buy VFP8 outside the upgrade path. Of course it's about money. Pretend you can upgrade for less money, and then turn around and make it pointless to do so.

Did I not pay for VFP7? VFP6? VFP3? FPW2.5 and 2.6? Damn straight I did. Now I'm being told that if I upgrade to version 8, I can forget about having paid MS for all those previous versions.

You're right; I don't have to buy version 8. I'm in the process of checking out the license agreements for Delphi and a few other developer products.

Yes we do develop in VFP, but so far, and for the near future anyway, we can do what we need to do with VFP6. I'd like to upgrade to VFP8, but I'm tired of being jerked around.

>>So about $525 in Canada, and anyway it's only money, right? However MS policy makers want to treat their customers is ok, as long as they allow the customer to throw money at them for the privilege.

>It is not a 'priviledge' or a right to use MS Visual FoxPro, it is a product for which you must pay.

>It's not 'only money' it is a cost of doing business. Sometimes they go up. But, how many other business do you know where you can easily make over $50k a year using a $500 tool you only have to buy a new one every other year.

>That's leverage.

>But, as I have said before, you do what you have to do. Personally, I think by not buying VFP 8.0, if you are a VFP developer, you are COSTing your self revenue.

>>>Taking into acocunt the loss of the $50 mail-in rebate (US & Canada only), I calculate the difference in price between an upgrade and a new VFP8 is $350.

>>>So how much time will you (assuming you're a contractor and not a wage slave) need to bill to cover that cost?
