Vin;

Good points! In learning other programming languages I found that having experience in dBase through VFP was a real help. I knew what I wanted to do, and that it could be done. That left me with finding out how to solve problems with a different tool. I have had many VB consultants tell me, “I did not know you could do that”!, as an example, while creating complex VB data based applications.

The hardest thing for me to do was to quit complaining to myself and others around me about “how simple this would be in VFP”! That truly took some effort and I became accustomed to what other tools required due to management dictates and client demands. Instead of telling others how little effort and time were required to do something in VFP, I would amuse myself thinking I was fulfilling the requirements and getting paid for my work but there was a less expensive solution (time wise) available which was neglected due to poor decision makers.

At work I use what management demands and I am well paid. At home I use VFP and a number of frameworks and have many repeat clients. If I used ASP.NET etc. at home, I would not have as many clients nor would I attempt to spend the required time trying to satisfy what a client demands. My free time is precious and I do not want to get bogged down with time issues and programming tools if you know what I mean. :)
