The EULA, and even the readme that Tamar quoted says clearly that if you buy the upgrade, you must uninstall the version you're upgrading from before you can install the upgrade. You don't have to install the new version immediately, but ultimately ("within a resonable time"), you do have to do it.
You cannot have both on your system at the same time if one is an upgrade of the other.
If you buy the full version, then you may, and they will co-exist happily on the same machine.
